In the US, if you're broadcasting on Showtime (a national network) then even if it's 23:00 on the East Coast, it's only 17:00 in Hawaii. (QAF was shown at 22:20 on Tuesdays - well after the 21:00 watershed)

Remakes are always bad.Īlso it's amazing how they can show all that stuff on British commercial television!!!!! In the US, you could NEVER show full frontal nudity and gay sex on TV!!!Ī large portion of being able to show it is the fact that British TV only broadcasts in one time zone. And this is on Showtime for Christ's Sake! Once you've seen the *original* British version, you're never gonna be able to watch the US remake.Īnd I just have to wonder why the hell Showtime couldn't just show the original rather than having to remake it. I also have read that they watered down the sex scenes and they raised Nathan's age from 15 to 18 for the US version. The American accents were painful to listen too. If you have seen it, you know the scene where Vince has the guy up to his apartment that followed him home from the club, then turns out to be not what he seemed to be, and Stuart is with Nathan when he gets the phone call about the baby being born? That is the scene I watched remade in the US version, and it was awful, *painful* to watch. I only watched 5 minutes of it this morning before I left for work and it was *unbearable*. My roommate had also brought home the 1:30 pilot episode of the US version of "Queer as Folk" produced for America's "Showtime" subscription cable network. Tonight I am watching the second half (4 more episodes) and can't wait to stick the tape in the VCR.

After, the show famously had an American version, which ran for five seasons. That edition starred Hal Sparks, Scott Lowell, Gale Harold, Randy Harrison, and Peter Paige and was set in Pennsylvania.Īccording to Variety, the reboot will be “ a modern take on the original British series that centres on a group of club-going friends who find support in the gay community following a tragedy.” News that the project was in development first broke in December. The original series starred Aiden Gillen, Craig Kelly and Charlie Hunnam. The reboot is based on the 1999 British drama of the same name which centered around three gay men living in Manchester, UK and ran for 10 episodes. T Davis, who created the original series, set to executive produce, alongside Lee Eisenberg and Emily Brecht. Production of the new show began last December with Stephen Dunn onboard to write the reboot and Russell. There, it will join shows like E!’s “One of Us is Lying.” Bravo’s reboot of “Queer as Folk,” has found a new home at NBCUniversal’s upcoming streaming service.
